Today we would like to share with you a reality of the situation of SMEs<\/a> with regard to the implementation of IT in their business that reveals a low penetration of cloud computing, something that places us below the European average.<\/p>\n

Less than 20% of Spanish companies have implemented ‘cloud computing’ or ‘cloud technology’<\/strong> solutions. Many of the businesses that resist this ‘jump’ are SMEs<\/strong> that prefer to buy servers to locate them in the office and thus centralise all the information for fear of losing it.<\/p>\n

European comparison<\/h3>\n

The delay in the adoption of cloud solutions in our country becomes more evident if we compare the figures with the rest of Europe. According to the latest Eurostat data, the percentage of companies with cloud computing technologies in the EU as a whole was already almost 20% two years ago. At that time, only 14% of Spanish businesses had moved to the cloud.<\/p>\n

The beServices consultancy firm attributes the resistance of SMEs to the ‘cloud’ to what it calls the ‘culture of ownership’. “Entrepreneurs keep their servers because they are aware of the need to keep the information safe and maintain the infrastructure to guarantee its operation”, and they are afraid of losing it or suffering leaks if they move it to the cloud.<\/p>\n

This happens, according to the consultancy firm, due to the lack of knowledge about this technology, which leads entrepreneurs to refuse to change solutions and strategies. “There are probably other, very reasonable, reasons for postponing a change that will come, but this is probably the one that distances us from the rest of Europe in terms of the percentage of cloud computing penetration”.<\/p>\n
