It’s a good idea to switch off the Wi-Fi<\/strong> when you’re away from home, especially on holiday, to avoid unnecessary risks. Luckily, there are some models that allow you to set the Wi-Fi to turn off automatically at certain times<\/strong>, so read on to find out how to do this!<\/p>\n

Step 1<\/h4>\n

Enter the IP address of the router<\/strong>, which is usually 192.168.1.1<\/strong> or 192.168.0.1.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Step 2<\/h4>\n

Enter your username and password<\/strong> to access. If you have not changed them, they are the ones that came with the router.
\nHere<\/strong> you can find out how to change your password.<\/a><\/p>\n

Step 3<\/h4>\n

Once inside, different menus will appear. Look for a section called Wi-Fi<\/strong> and click on it.<\/p>\n

Step 4<\/h4>\n

Now you need to find Wi-Fi Scheduler<\/strong> or a similar name.<\/p>\n

Step 5<\/h4>\n

In the scheduler, the Permanently On<\/strong> box will be checked by default. Uncheck it and select the days and times you want the router to be inactive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Step 6<\/h4>\n

Save your changes<\/strong>. The router will usually reboot automatically, although some models require a manual reboot.<\/p>\n

In this way, you will not have Wi-Fi enabled, but your wired Internet and landline will still work.<\/p>\n

Reasons for leaving the router on<\/h3>\n

You may be thinking of turning off the router to avoid possible intrusions<\/strong> into your equipment. But remember that turning off the router completely can be a clue that no one is home<\/strong>. Therefore, the alternative of scheduling the Wi-Fi to be turned off is quite feasible.<\/p>\n

In addition, you may have devices that require a connection<\/strong> to work properly. Perhaps you have a media server or NAS that you want to access from outside the home and you need to keep it switched on. Or maybe you have a security system based on IP cameras and a smart lock.<\/p>\n
